Good Surprises and Great Anticipation at New Life

When it comes to worship, I am not a real big fan of surprises. Surprises tend to show up in the form of something not working. But Sunday was an exception. When I arrived, I discovered that Julian Bond was in the house; he had brought his keyboard, and he was going to join the praise band. Julian is an incredible talent who has been with us several times. So, it was a terrific surprise!

It wasn’t a surprise when Claudia Wheeler sang the song “Come Jesus Come,” but it was really good as always. Thanks, Claudia. All in all, it was a good day to worship at New Life.
We head into August anticipating reoccupying our fellowship center after several weeks of construction. You will be amazed when you step into it and see what a great facility this is going to be for us. We will be able to have multiple things going on at the same time. Also, construction began on the canopy that will join our two buildings and keep us dry during rainy weather. When I arrived on Tuesday morning, some of the steel framing was up.
A couple of events to keep in mind. On Sunday, August 17, we will meet in the fellowship center's large room for a short dedication and commitment prayer regarding our new facility. This will happen after each service. Then on Tuesday the 19th, a men’s breakfast will be held. There is more information elsewhere in the newsletter or on our website.

Plans continue to take shape for our 20th anniversary celebration on October 12. We will be announcing the schedule of events soon. You never know what is going to happen, but there have been several former members and friends of New Life who have indicated they plan to share that day with us. I guarantee it will be a great day. I hope you are planning to be with us that day. Our choir and orchestra are back this Sunday. I have missed them while they have been on their summer break, and I am looking forward to their leading us in worship again.
