One Giant Leap for Mankind, 20,000 Steps for Matt and Connie

Connie’s birthday was last Saturday, and so we took a few days for a short trip to the Kennedy Space Center. We always miss being with you all when we are gon,e but we also know that because of the great people who make up New Life, everything will be just fine. I appreciate Bob ending the “Seven Deadly Sins” series with his message on greed.

We have lived here for 20 years and have never visited Cape Canaveral and the NASA visitors’ complex. We spent 2 days there, walked 20,000 steps, and enjoyed seeing things up close that we had only seen on TV before. There are a lot of interactive exhibits, but Connie said she is pretty sure they hadn’t planned on 76-year-old men trying some of them out. I have to admit that when I finally got out of the tunnel, I was pretty sure she was right. She asked me if any little kids had passed me as I was going through, adding insult to injury.

We sat through a video about a new telescope that will enable us to see much further than has been possible with Hubble. The pictures were spectacular. There was a sad element to our visit; not once, over the course of two days and multiple presentations, did anyone speak a single word about a Creator. How sad that the creator of our universe and all that the new telescope will ever see is ignored. While I was sitting and watching I thought how much more meaningful it would have been had Psalm 8:3 been mentioned, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place…” – Psalm 8:3 (NIV) Or what about Psalm 147:4 – “He [God counts the stars and assigns each a name. Our Lord is great, with limitless strength; we’ll never comprehend what he knows and does.” – Psalm 147:4 (The Message) All the stars we were shown and who knows how many more, God knows each of them by name. Amazing!

We are glad we went, and we are glad to be home. See you Sunday.
