Power outages are never welcomed.

Updated: Jun 19

CHoir and Cheryl de Jonge

Power outages are never welcomed or beneficial unless you happen to be sitting in the electric chair. But, they happen, and here at New Life, we experienced one this past weekend. When Mike arrived on Sunday morning, we had no power, which meant no lights, no sound, no projection, and, most of all, no air conditioning. SECO, our electric provider, was contacted, and they said they were on the way. Now, it was a race against time to see if SECO could get us back up and running before the first service began at 9:00 a.m. Unfortunately, they didn’t make it, so we cancelled the first service and looked ahead to the second service. SECO did get us electrified again, and everything was ready at 10:30. It was a great service, making it all the more disappointing for so many of our folks who missed it. It was a service that was full of energy and contained many positive aspects.

Choir singing Sunday

The music was great. This was the last Sunday for our choir and orchestra until after their summer break. They sang/played an arrangement of “I’ve Got Joy” with Claudia Wheeler doing the solo part. In addition, Cheryl DeJonge played a piano solo, “I Sing the Mighty Power of God,” and David Leshay closed the service with the song, “A Simple Song.” Everything was so good it made not having the first service hurt a little more. I know a lot of you who came at 9:00 didn’t come back at 10:30, so you missed this wonderful worship experience. You can still watch it from our website. I hope you will.

Of course, Sunday was Father's Day, and each of the men present received a can or bottle of Root Beer and a package of trail mix; truly a man’s gift. I turned my Root Beer into a Root Beer Float. I had not had one of those in a long time. I had to supply the ice cream, but it was worth it. Thanks to everyone who made all that happen.

As I write this, we are only 13 days from the middle of 2025. We have some significant events planned for the last six months of the year, including the celebration of New Life’s 20th anniversary on October 12. There are a number of activities planned, but not all of them will be on the 12th. Details about our celebration schedule will be revealed shortly. We have special guests joining us, and many of our seasonal members are planning to return early to celebrate with us. I do hope you have “Saved the Date” and will do your best to be with us on October 12.
